My Natural Hair, Wash Day

Embracing My Afro

I keep telling myself, “one of these days, I’m going to wear my hair in an afro.  Not today, but one day for sure.”  My hesitation comes from it becoming a complete fail.  And so I’ve only been doing my wash and go coils because I trust them.  But here I am almost two weeks since this last wash day and I’ve pretty much been wearing an afro all week.  Since my last wash day my coils have slowly morphed into an afro — and I like it!   Here’s the rundown on my last wash day.

Wash Day Details.

This was one of my shorter wash days as far as timing goes.  There was no lounging around between steps and no pre-poo either.  I started with As I Am Coconut Cowash Conditioner. This wash day technically should’ve been my shampoo wash day, but I really wanted to bang this wash day out as quickly as possible, so I went with a co-wash.

My deep conditioning gloss this time was super simple.  I used Generic Value Products Conditioning Balm with 2 teaspoons of fenugreek seed powder.  The gloss was sitting together for a few hours before I started washing my hair.  I applied the gloss to my hair and sat under the hooded dryer for 30 minutes.  After rinsing the conditioner, I applied my herbal oil to my scalp and The Mane Choice Shea Butter to my hair.

To style my hair, this week I used Jane Carter Solutions Curl Defining Cream.  Below is my hair as it progressed from wash day to its most recent afro state.  I lost curl definition with each passing day.  The fact that I haven’t rewashed my hair yet is due to lack of time.  Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised with its appearance.  I don’t know, I may have to attempt a wash and go afro at some point…maybe.

Any tips for styling an afro on wash day?
