After longer hair, the next most important thing a girl on a hair journey seeks is thicker hair. And we’ve all seen posts and videos sharing tips for thicker hair. But when you’ve made all the changes to your hair regimen and you’re still dealing with thin hair or the even more frustrating thinning hair, it’s time to dig deeper. When women start noticing hair loss/thinning, the first thing most of us think is stress. Stress as a cause is such an easy thing to put off because we all deal with stress. However, the reality is that 90% of the time thinning hair is actually due to genetics or hereditary hair loss. Even though, you can feel like it’s just you dealing with this, thinning hair is a normal part of the aging process. And just like with wrinkled skin we can (and should) be proactive about treatment.
Yes, hereditary hair loss is a large pill to swallow. But with the help of women like, celebrity hair stylist Jill Crosby, who agreed to share her personal experiences, we can stop hiding from the reality and start taking steps to address it. She acknowledges the embarrassment around hair loss, but wants to make sure that you realize you are not alone. She is among the up to 42% of women who have noticed hair loss in their lifetime and she is also the Women’s ROGAINE® Brand Ambassador. As a trained hair professional she was able to identify her hereditary hair loss and seek treatment. But if you are unsure, then seek the help of a hair stylist or dermatologist to confirm that your thinning/hair loss is hereditary. Below are the highlights from our interview on dealing with hereditary hair loss and thinning:
Jill Crosby shares what she did to treat her hereditary hair loss:
“I think many women used Men’s ROGAINE® before Women’s ROGAINE® Foam was on the market. They all just bought it in the cover of the night trying to avoid the shame of it! How do I know…well .. um… let’s just say I KNOW. When ROGAINE® came to see that women too needed and deserved a treatment product, they set out to formulate the best and only FDA-approved once daily foam formula with 5% minoxidil, the highest concentration of the active ingredient used to regrow hair on the market. They also acknowledged that the conversation of shame, beauty and well-being needed to be had alongside of introducing this treatment to the public. They sought out experts in the area of thinning hair and hair loss including dermatologists and stylists who specialized could help start this important conversation with women.”
How long does it take to see results from Women’s ROGAINE® Foam?
“You will be able to see results as early as 12 weeks. Consistency is the key to this product, using it regularly—once a day every day will keep you on track for regrowth.” –Jill Crosby
Are there any general hair styling or care trends that women dealing with thinning hair should avoid?
“Stay away from over working, over straining (too much tension) over processing hair. Caring for the hair you have is really important.” –Jill Crosby
Any advice to motivate and encourage readers who are on a healthy hair journey and dealing with hereditary hair loss?
“As I said earlier, shame is a big part of the story here. Somehow women think they are less than as a result of thinning hair, this simply isn’t true. What I want to say to every woman out there is shame is useless and damaging. The first step to being beautiful is to KNOW that you already are! Women’s ROGAINE® has a great product here, truly they do, so use this because I believe that the restoration of your hair can contribute to our sense of wellbeing but along with it KNOW that you are already perfect inside out!!!” — Jill Crosby
