One week after relaxing, blow drying and flat ironing my hair, I’m back to my air dry routine. Even though there’s a big part of me that wants to go back to straight hair, I know it’s best to continue with my current (low heat – low manipulation) hair regimen if I want to claim waist length this year. I planned to wash my hair this weekend, but with all of the Easter weekend festivities, I didn’t get around to it until Monday. Here’s how it went.
One Week Post Relaxer
I stuck with my moisturizing pre-poo combination of aloe vera juice and wheat germ oil. Lately I’ve been spraying the aloe vera juice on my hair and then layering the wheat germ oil over it. It’s a lot easier and I don’t have to spend so much time trying to clean the wheat germ oil from the inside of my spray bottle.
I initially lathered with the Mizani Phormula-7 Chelating and Neutralizing shampoo and then followed up with Design Essentials Honey Creme Shampoo. The neutralizing shampoo wasn’t necessary, but since this was the first wash day after relaxing my hair, it put my mind at ease to have another session with a neutralizing shampoo.
Deep Conditioning Treatment.
Normally, I would have reached for my current fave, KeraMinerals Smoothing Deep Conditioner, but to my surprise I was all out of it. Instead I decided to test out the Design Essentials (DE) Stimulations Conditioner. It was very smoothing to my hair and made detangling a breeze (granted I have no new growth at the moment). But my initial impressions of it were pretty similar to the DE Rosemary Mint Conditioner that I used a few weeks back — thumbs up.
After rinsing the deep conditioner and detangling again with my wide tooth comb, I applied Chi Silk Infusion and then Elasta QP Olive Oil and Mango Butter Leave-in. I put my hair in a loose bun and tied my hair down for bed. The next morning my hair was mostly dry and edges were ready for the day.
