Over My Relaxer Stretch | Roller Setting to Get Me Through

roller set 21 weeks new growthI have been over this stretch for the past few weeks.  The tangles, the longer wash days — the wash days in general, ugh, I’m so close to throwing in the towel.  But with three weeks left, I just need to calm my nerves.  To help me get through this week I decided to do a roller set.  I’m hoping that having some semblance of straighter hair will get me out of this funk.  Is it too soon to say that my next stretch won’t be 6 months? I’m kidding…well only slightly.  But that’s how I’m feeling right about now.  I just kept telling myself throughout every step of this wash day to be calm, be patient and don’t rip my hair out.  In addition to stretching my hair with a roller set, I decided to add some excitement/anticipation to the wash day by testing out a few new hair products.

Pre-Poo.

Aloe Vera Juice and Wheat Germ Oil to detangle, section and twist my hair for shampooing.  I made about 8 to 10 separate sections.  Then I layered the CHI Infra Treatment on top and let it sit for 15 minutes.

Shampoo.

Despite conditioning my hair twice a week, my hair has been feeling dry.  To combat that I opted to do my first and second lather with Mizani Phormula-7 Chelating and Neutralizing Shampoo.  Then two more lathers using Design Essentials Honey Creme Shampoo (it was on clearance at my local Ulta for 50%…so I bought three.  Don’t ask me why because I don’t know, lol).

Deep Condition.

Another new purchase was Design Essentials Rosemary Mint Super Stimulating Conditioner.  Love doesn’t even begin to describe how I felt about the way this conditioner made my hair feel.  The only down side is the size. I’ll go through this DC in no time.  But I let it sit in my hair for 15 minutes and work its magic.

Leave-In Treatment.

This was the first time that I only used one product on my hair after conditioning.  I’m always mixing things up and layering things on at this point — a little moisturizing, heat protectant, serum, and maybe an oil.  This wash day I went with GVP The Conditioner and that’s it.  I finished this up, so I need to go restock on my next trip to Sally Beauty.

Roller Set.

Like I mentioned, I didn’t use any other products aside from my leave-in for this roller set and I air dried it overnight.  No heat, for the win!

Flat Ironed Roots and Pin Curled.

With all the new growth I have (see bottom left picture above), I had to flat iron my roots.  I did it lightly and sporadically just to limit the puffiness at the root.  And there you have it, my roller set hair at 21 weeks post relaxer.

Relaxer day just can’t come soon enough for me.

  1. It turned out awesome and you air dried your set too. That’s amazing. I can’t even air dry without my hair wanting to frizz and poof up.

    1. Thanks, Afton! I didn’t intend to air dry, but when ended up having to I was surprised by how smooth my ends came out too.

  2. Your hair looks gorgeous and healthy. You have a lot of growth looks like between 3-4 or more inches. Hang in there you are almost there and for some reason this stretch seemed to go faster. Which do you prefer the new Design essentials stimulating conditioner or silk elements smoothing conditioner?

    1. Thanks, Brenda! I’m trying to hang in there. I just want to retain as much of that length as possible.

I’ve only used the design essentials once so it’s too soon to say for sure, but it seems to be up there. 😉

  3. Lovely! I like how your pin curls came out. You have become a serial stretcher, congratulations!

  4. You are now the stretching boss and Rollerset Boss. Looking forward to your results.

  5. looks great! I hate long stretches. I have no problem dealing with the hair but to do the relaxer on a load of NG is not a joke.

    1. That’s understandable. I’m in it for the benefits of stretching. If I can keep my breakage at bay, then I’m golden. Thanks for commenting 🙂
