If 2014 was minimalistic
, then 2015 was haulerific. This year, I’ve been making big changes with my hair regimen
and I’ve been shopping too! lol. I didn’t share all my hauls with you guys (my bad), but I enjoyed buying new hair goodies and testing them out, especially deep conditioners. Of course it was no fun when I found duds, but the process added some excitement to my hair journey. While many of them were middle of the road good, a few were either amazing or terrible. Check out my recap on the best and the worst of 2015.
As I Am Coconut CoWash Cleansing Conditioner. More Moisture and Co-washing were big for my hair late in 2015. It all started to help me get through the end of my relaxer stretch with minimal breakage. Well, when my stretch was over, I kept up with my frequent conditioning schedule and I’m loving it. My hair feels a lot more moisturized and elastic. I typically use random conditioners (alternating between moisturizing and strengthening ones), but this As I Am Coconut CoWash Cleansing Conditioner was a definite favorite for me. When I use this my wash day is super simple: Co-wash, apply leave-ins and air dry. Plus, this Cleansing Conditioner gently removes product build up from my scalp while moisturizing my hair strands. A major plus now that I’m not shampooing weekly.
Elasta QP Olive Oil and Mango Butter Leave-in Conditioner has been amazing to my hair. I use it when air drying. I apply it to damp hair and I get soft, smooth, and moisturized hair. Additionally I’ve been using it to do my moisturizing and sealing throughout the week. I just lightly dampen the length of my hair first and then apply the leave-in; my hair loves it. I used to say that the Elasta QP Moisture Recovery Anti-Breakage Leave-in was my favorite, but now I’m like, Who? lol. The Olive Oil and Mango Butter Leave-in Conditioner is significantly better.
Silk Element KeraMinerals Smoothing Conditioner. The up side to testing out more deep conditioners is when you find a gem like this. It is moisturizing, it has slip, it smooths my hair and it smells so good! I mean what more could a girl ask for on a hair journey but a bomb DC like this one. It’s a definite keeper! Aubrey Organics GPB Conditioner deserves an honorable mention as well–love that stuff! (Note to self: Include more Aubrey Organics DCs in my next product haul.)
Odorless Garlic Pills.
When people asked whether I got a lot of shedding from stretching my relaxer beyond 4 months, I can honestly say I saw a drastic decrease in my shedding. Thanks to the advice of a fellow hair vlogger
, I bought some odorless garlic pills. I took one daily (even though the package instructions directed that I take 3) and within a week I noticed a drastic decrease in my rate of shedding. I didn’t want to say anything until I had been taking the pills for months. And 3 months later, my shedding is not half of what it used to be. As with any health supplement you should do your research and/or consult your physician to understand how it impacts your health outside of its impact on our hair. But I’m 100% on the garlic pill train.
The Worst of it All
Naturally Silk Elements Deep Nourishing Conditioner.
I didn’t like anything about this conditioner. It has an airy whipped consistency, but it was thick at the same time (weird, I know). It’s wasn’t good for detangling, it didn’t give me shine, it didn’t make my hair feel very moisturized, and it didn’t help with smoothing my air dried hair. This is one of those hair products geared to natural hair, which did nothing for my relaxed hair.
Cantu Shea Butter Leave-in Conditioning Repair Cream. I felt really let down by this product because it gets so many rave reviews and I’ve seen this listed on so many other hair regimens. Because of that I was really excited to try it out. But I just don’t like it. It doesn’t do much one way or the other when first applied but a day or two later and my hair feels very dry with this product. I gave it the good ol’ college try and even tried it on my daughter’s natural hair. It was the same situation. The only thing that mildly saved this product is that it does well with baggying, but honestly, it’s not worth the purchase to just use when baggying. I won’t be repurchasing.
Inconsistent Blogging. At the end of 2015. I disappeared on you guys. I apologize for that. I intend to be more intentional with my blog in 2016. And instead of going on and on about what I’m going to do, I’m just going to be about it. Stay tuned for what I’m gon’ do next (insert neck roll and duck lips). lol. No but seriously, see you in 2016!
