Weeks 18 & 19 of My 6 Month Relaxer Stretch | The All Stars.

Last week’s braid out was ruined by a run in with some serious rain.  I tried to salvage it by re-braiding that night but that was a fail.  I ended up having to cowash to reset and air dry in a bun.   Since then I haven’t done anything but air dry into a bun.  I’ll be 20 weeks post relaxer this Friday and the plan is to straighten my hair.  I don’t know when the last time I did that was, but I think I deserve it for making it this far with no heat.  Plus, I really need to get rid of my shed hairs.  My most recent wash day took a lot longer to detangle because of matting.

Thus far, the all-stars have been:

That Eco Styler Argan Oil Gel has been coming through for me lately.  At some point I’ve got to show you a before and after with this new growth at my edges.  Without some sort of serious holding gel, I probably would have relaxed by now.
The Elasta QP Olive Oil and Mango Butter Leave-In is so moisturizing.  It moisturizes and smooths my new growth and relaxed air dried hair perfectly.  Honestly this is the best moisturizer that I have used to date.
The ORS Kids Detangling Leave-in is the only reason I made through the detangling sessions these past two weeks, especially last night — that was rough.  Detangling has been pretty crucial in that back section above my nape, but this detangler (which I initially bought for my daughter) has been a life/hair saver.
The As I Am Coconut Cleansing Cowash is a gentle cleanser that assists with detangling in the shower.  I’ve noticed that regular shampoos at this stage of my stretch have been too drying and create tangles for me.  But I am noticing some build up so I will be shampooing/clarifying next wash day.
Apple Cidar Vinegar Rinses (1 part apple cider vinegar to 3 parts water) after deep conditioning have helped with the smoothness of my air dried hair, especially when using a deep conditioner that doesn’t do much for my hair beyond moisturize it (see Proclaim Intense Hydrating Masque).  No shade to Proclaim Intense Hydrating Masque because my hair is moisturized after using it, BUT I need a bit more assistance (smoothing, slip, softness, etc) when I’m dealing with two textures the way I have been near the end of this relaxer stretch.
What are your favorite hair products to use when you are deep into a relaxer stretch?

  1. Awww Kim I feel you! The UK rain is always ruining my hair. I love Eco Styler Gel too, I have the Olive Oil one and it slicks down my edges so well x

  2. Thanks, Lesley. I ran through that rain thinking I really was going to dodge those rain drops. Uhhh, major fail, lol.

  3. We had a kind rainy season this year so my hairstyles were not as impacted. Some years though, it rains day in and out for months. I haven't tried EQP mango butter in ages. I think I stopped using it when it was reformulated some years ago. I might give it a try for old time sake when I swing by the BSS. You're serving sexy realness is that bottom photo with the bun. 🙂

  4. Awww sorry about the rain! I saw these bonnets people wrre wearing in Italy when it was raining, maybe you can look for those 🙂
I'm really eager on trying this elasta qp leave-in, are you talking about the one in a tub or the watery one? Moisturising was definitely my saving grace on my stretch, but I need a moisturiser that I can find easily here in Kenya.. And wow to those edges! So smooth you wouldn't think there's 19 weeks of growth under there

  5. I use that ECO styler too. 🙂 Do you use a lot of it? It seems to work for me for just a few hours but I don't slather it on. ACV rinses rock. They also help with an itchy scalp.

  6. The rain always ruins our styles. Never tried eco styler but it laid your edges down. I use the Elasta QP moisturizer but never the leave in and it does an awesome job.

  7. lol, I think I'll pass on the bonnets. I just need to make sure I carry an umbrella with me and keep an eye out for the weather forecast, lol.

The Elasta QP that I use is the creamy one in the tub. I hope you can get your hands on it in Kenya because it's pretty amazing.

  8. Yeah, I do use a lot on the first day. Maybe a golf ball size when I'm all said and done with it. It lasts at least two days if I don't work out. To "re-sleek" my edges, I spray my edges with water and use maybe a quarter size amount of gel.

  9. Yeah, when I was looking into a new leave-in/moisturizer I was originally there to get the moisturizer, but ended up deciding on the Leave-in because it looked a little bit lighter. But that moisturizer gets rave reviews. At some point, I'm sure I'll give the moisturizer a try as well.

  10. yes we have it here! I am definitely putting it on my wish list 🙂
