Relaxer Update | January 2015 – Waist Length…BARELY!

Let me start out by saying that this was probably the most chaotic relaxer day process I’ve had in a long time.  The relaxer application went smoothly, but after that — it was sheer chaos, lol.  (Spoiler Alert: There was a happy ending, as evidenced by the picture above).

I was 14+ weeks post relaxer at the time.  And I used my Affirm Fiberguard Sensitive Scalp Creme Relaxer.  I greased my scalp with Summit Sensitive Scalp.  After rinsing the relaxer, I did my mid-step protein treatment.  This is where things went a little coo-coo because I didn’t have a protein conditioner at all!  So, I improvised and used GVP Concentrated Leave-in Treatment as my mid step protein.  Yes, I used a leave-in treatment for my mid step protein. Did I know if they were adequate substitutes?  No, but desperate times call for desperate measures!  Normally I gather all of my hair products before relaxing my hair, but I’m still getting used to life with a tiny human.  So, when I saw an opening on Saturday morning to relax my hair, I just jumped in without really thinking about what I did and didn’t have.  Hence the leave-in acting like a protein treatment.

I went all in with the leave-in treatment and slathered it all over my hair.  I let it sit for 3 to 5 minutes.  Then I rinsed.  And again, I realized that I didn’t have my neutralizing shampoo with color alarms.  So, I grabbed Roux Porosity Control; let that sit for a minute, rinsed, and then I shampooed with Mizani Phormula-7 Neutralizing and Chelating Shampoo.  After that I deep conditioned with Nexxus Humectress, I applied GVP The Conditioner, CHI Silk Infusion and Proclaim Spray On Glosser as my leave-ins, heat protectants, and styling products.  For styling purposes, I went with the blow dry and flat iron.

I was waist length for about an hour on Saturday.  But I had to get rid of those uneven ends.  I trimmed a little while flat iron and realized that I had to trim some more after that. I was sad to see them go, but when I did my length check, I couldn’t be anything less than happy about where my hair currently is (especially, when you consider how much postpartum shedding I’ve been experiencing).

Hey all's well that ends well. Definite progress.

  2. //

Your hempline looks great. By your next touch up you will be waist length.

  3. //

Your hair still managed to thrive even with all the shedding. I've know some women who've had to cut many inches off sometimes all their hair off due to post partum shedding.
I believe the proactive steps you took to prepare you for the shedding has paid off. your length is still great. Kudos!

Thanks, Savvy Sammy! I was really happy that I didn't have to do a drastic cut.

Thanks this process seems simple to do. I like a blunt cut but i think i will self trim and do a slight U cut this time as the blunt cut will cause me to lose too much length to even it out.

Yes it is. I'm so glad that I found it. I've been using it for years now.
